What is the Easy Access agreement (HBO)?

The Easy Access agreement for universities of applied sciences (HBO) is a buyout scheme that Stichting UvO has closed with the Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences (Vereniging Hogescholen). In total 36 Dutch universities of applied sciences will pay each year for the ‘reuse’ of published work (articles, chapters, etc.).

This means that lecturers at universities of applied sciences (HBO) may reuse up to 50 pages from a publication, provided that this is no more than 25% of the original work. In addition, they may use a maximum of 50 images in presentations (f.e. PowerPoint). This makes the reuse of copyrighted material within higher professional education much easier.
